Impact of thermodynamic hypotheses on the calculation of the quantity of CO<sub>2</sub> stored in a saline aquifer

The aim of this paper is to study the impact thermodynamics models on CO 2 storage capacity an aquifer, by using modelling and simulation transport phenomena in porous media. aquifer represented here a simplified three phase isothermal non-reacting medium composed inert solid two binary (CO H2O) fluid phases. mathematical description classically developed volume averaging method. For each phase, conservation equations mass, momentum energy alongside thermodynamic laws boundary conditions are first written. They then integrated over representative elementary order establish at local scale. In point view, kinds have been implemented compared. one assumes that gas liquid phases ideal. On contrary, second approach, non-ideal taken into account calculating activity coefficient (γ-φ approach) for fugacity (PengRobinson phase. Results show, among other things, amount dissolved significantly reduced with approach compared ideal case. These results highlight interest considering more complex models.
